Nur ein Gesicht, Bregenzer Festspiele, Kunst aus der Zeit

Only one face

by Angelika Rainer, Bregenzer Festspiele / Kunst aus der Zeit

“Faces will have remained the same
they let the air of the past coagulate within them
including ours from back then.”
Vittorio Sereni

Thirteen people between seventy and ninety years old tell their stories about love. Stories about the happiness and misfortune of love. Cornelia Rainer lets the actors emerge from the stage space like figures from bygone times, while the Osttiroler Musicbanda Franui plays German folk songs by Johannes Brahms. The songs are about affection and farewell, about love madness, loss, and deep sorrow. The title of the evening is a condensation of the song line “Only one face lives on earth” and carries a multi-layered meaning: A face is something that one should uphold under all circumstances. However, if one has a face, it can also be a vision.
